General Adult

The General Adult MHS (GAMHS) is responsible for providing community and acute inpatient mental health services to people aged between 18 and 65.  The service also provides the Crisis Assessment and Treatment services for all people in the Wellington, Porirua and Kapiti districts.   The CAT team offers a Home Based Treatment service and Recovery Houses for people who are acutely unwell but who would prefer not to be admitted to the acute inpatient unit and Crisis Respite Services.

There are four community based mental health teams, two in Wellington, one in Porirua and one in Kapiti.  For people requiring intensive community support there is the Team for Assertive Community Treatment (TACT).  The Consultation Liaison team provide consultation, assessment and treatment for people in the General Hospital who have mental health issues associated with their physical illness.

GAMHS also incorporates the Service Coordination team that is responsible for Support Needs Assessments and Packages of Care for the Mental Health Directorate.
